Dr. Shanhong Lu grew up in Beijing, China, within two traditions of medicine. From the Eastern tradition, her grandmother was a midwife who practiced traditional Chinese medicine and self-care, strongly believed in nature’s ability to heal, and lived a spirited life to the end. Her mother was one of China’s first female cardiologists and clinical professors of medicine, firmly rooted in the science and rescuing power of Western medicine. Having seen the beauty and power of both traditions, Dr. Lu has made it her craft to integrate the wisdom of the East with the science of the West.
Dr. Lu completed her MD in Beijing, then a PhD in human physiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and a postdoctoral fellowship in Genetics of Hypertension at UC San Francisco. Dr. Lu is a published author in hypertension research and a public speaker for environmental health and sustainable health care. She is double board-certified in Internal Medicine and in Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine. She also strongly believes in optimizing women’s hormones through biorhythmic bioidentical dosing. Her interest in the root causes of chronic diseases was inspired by her trials and errors healing not only her own endocrine and autoimmune challenges, but also through caring for thousands of people with serious, complex medical issues.
After 20 years in practice, collaborating with hundreds of practitioners across all specialties—in conventional, functional medicine and naturopathic principles—Dr. Lu has placed her clinical practice on hold and now serves as a medical educator, researcher, collaborator, and teacher to people from all walks of life and professions.
